ABstract Expressions Contemporary Art Gallery announces its winter exhibit of works by abstract artists S. L. Baker and Mercedes Farrugia.

Lawrenceville artist S. L. (Sherry) Baker’s paintings are a confluence of Buddhist thought, and social and familial concern. Using fingers instead of brushes, a moment, a word, an injustice, a joy becomes a color, a texture, a line, another language. Sherry’s paintings reference compassion, and the acceptance of what actually is present in any given circumstance.

Mercedes Farrugia (Howell) is trained in decorative finishing techniques, and has her own small business of custom painting rooms, furniture and floor cloths, and teaching these skills to others. She departs from this to create ethereal abstracts, often evocative of interiors or misty landscapes.

“I am delighted to bring together the works of Sherry and Mercedes,” says Gallery Director James Kent. “There is a serene quality to the works of both artists. As one walks around the Gallery, it is wonderful to experience the quiet progression of emotion from one painting to the next. You start in one place artistically and end up in another, yet the journey seems natural, and sometimes even surprising!”

The winter exhibit is on view at the Gallery from January 14 through February 25, 2012. Two “Meet the Artists” receptions will be held. The first reception will be on Saturday, January 21, from 2:00 until 4:00 PM. The second reception will be on Saturday, February 11, from 2:00 until 4:00 PM. The public is cordially invited.

Also on display in the Gallery are paintings by selected Gallery artists; ceramics by Nancy Reese, Helge Speth, Rose Marie Strippoli, and Eric Wolff; sculptures by Dan Becker and Michael Taylor; furniture by William Robbins; and hand-carved walking sticks by Dave DeAntonio.

ABstract Expressions Contemporary Art Gallery is located at 70 High Street in Mount Holly, New Jersey. Gallery hours are Friday from 1:00 until 7:00 PM and Saturday from noon until 7:00 PM, and by appointment.
